Rotherham Library holds 4 microfilms of the 1871 Census for Rotherham. These include the whole of the present Metropolitan Borough and also some peripheral areas where the Registration Sub-districts overlap.
Frank Westwood, a member of the Sheffield & District Family History Society, partially transcribed the whole of these microfilms. Other members of the society typed and checked the work and used it to produce a computer file and a name index. During this time the Rotherham branch separated from Sheffield to create the Rotherham Family History Society, who brought the work to publication.
Rotherham Family History Society owns the copyright to the index but has made the information available for sale from the RFHS Shop. If you decide to purchase the index please respect our copyright and do not make copies of the disks for other people.
