Rotherham
Library holds 4 microfilms of the 1871 Census for Rotherham.
These include the whole of the present Metropolitan Borough
and also some peripheral areas where the Registration Sub-districts
overlap.
Frank Westwood, a member of the Sheffield & District Family
History Society, partially transcribed the whole of these
microfilms. Other members of the society typed and checked
the work and used it to produce a computer file and a name index.
During this time the Rotherham branch separated from Sheffield
to create the Rotherham Family History Society, who brought
the work to publication.
