Email Policy Most people who use the internet to send and receive emails are having their in-box clogged with unsolicited email messages offering products or services that are not wanted. Spammers typically use computer programs that search public areas on the internet to compile, capture, or otherwise "harvest" lists of email addresses from web pages, newsgroups, chatrooms, and other online destinations. Email address harvesting usually is automated and looks for the ""@"" sign. Addresses can be found even when they are not visible to the naked eye. There are a number of ways to protect email address, and we have chosen to implement one of these on this web site. Masking email addresses involves putting a word or phrase in the email address so that it will trick a harvesting computer program, but not a person. We have chosen to insert the phrase "at" instead of the "@" in all members email addresses displayed on this web site. Therefore, when submitting your email address, insert "at" in place of the "@" in your address. When using any email address displayed on this site, remove "at" and replace it with "@" before inserting the email address into the To ...... or Cc .... address box on the email page. To avoid having your Email being confused with spam, be sure to use a clear description in the subject heading on the email page. We would suggest that any email to members of the society should include "Rotherham FHS - topic." in the subject heading. |
