Transcribing
One of the Society's main functions is to create a resource library for local researchers. We are currently involved in several research projects, including the transcribing and recording of Monumental Inscriptions in local cemeteries and churchyards, transcribing Census Returns and fulfilling our commitment to the National Burial Index Project, which is promoted by the Federation of Family History Societies. Many more projects are planned for the future.
We have a mammoth task underway to transcribe all the burial records held at the RMBC Cemetery Office. We are currently in the process of digitising the pages so this will make it easier to transcribe and index the thousands of burial records. This project when completed will be a real asset to the Society and of course to those family historians who are looking for burial records of their ancestors. We could do this much more quickly if we had plenty of volunteers to help. If you could spare an hour or two a week then please contact the Projects and NBI Co-ordinator, Linda Gamston, by email at lindagamston@hotmail.com, who will set you up with the necessary tools for transcribing.
